'65 Dodge WM300 Power Wagon Engine Compartment

Here's a look at the engine compartment from the driver's side. This is a 251 flat head. Dodge claimed 115 horse, if I remember right, but that doesn't begin to convey an idea of the low end torque.

No, that ain't the original factory engine color. I bought this truck in '81 and drove it right up to a one quart every fifteen miles oil guzzling habit. Did a complete rebuild around '95 or so. Runs wonderfully now, and uses more gas than oil for a change.

You can see the weather isn't so hot. The white streaks in the picture are from the blizzard raging all around me. Not the ideal day to snap pictures. I'll get some better images here when things improve and I get the time.

A look from the passenger side. Not terribly revealing, but I wasn't going to climb up on that snow covered fender. I'll get in nice and close when it doesn't require duty above and beyond the call.

One thing to notice is the oil bath air cleaner. Very effective. Actually, I robbed this one from my '68. I had the original crack off the carb as I was turning a corner. Scared the hell out of me. Had smoke billowing from under the hood and up through the floor boards. Grabbed the fire extinguisher and cautiously lifted the hood, expecting a major conflagration. Nope. Just a major mess. The thing holds a whole quart and most of that was on the exhaust manifold. Oh well. Additional rust proofing.
